Victorian Mourning Shadow Box with Hair KeepsakeNot all examples of Victorian hairwork are memorials, but this one is. This handmade assemblage featuring gimp worked hair in a shadow box and a German inscription is a memorial for a little girl who died at age 5. The hair would have been hers, the arrangement most likely gimp worked by her mother. The little beaded heart attached to the bottom is especially touching. This would be an ideal vessel for rose water

Charming brass candlestick holder in the shape of a dragon with a curling tail

The form is very evocative

but the style of case and mat as well as the slightly curved glass place it around the mid 1850s to mid 1860s

Condition is excellent save for some surface wear to the cover

Not all examples of Victorian hairwork are memorials

this would make the most extravagant & luxurious presentation box I can imagine
