It was painted in Kerson in Crimea, then acquired by Algirdas Gediminas, Grand Duke of Lithuania (possibly as a war trophy), who then presented it to his wife Maria of Vitebsk, the only child of the Russian Prince Yaroslav of Vitebsk.
