PyriteThe Eagle mine is probably best known for its pyritohedral Pyrite specimens. This full thumbnail sized specimen is a great display piece of Eagle Mine Pyrite showing typical striated pyritohedra with sharp, very lustrous faces. Its also nearly a floater as there is only a small point of attachment. The left edge has a contact

which means that these are just a dream for phosphate collectors

and it’s essentially damage free save the bottom where it detached from the matrix

There is a little bit of roughness here and there

orange-sienna colored "sword"-shaped crystal of Brookite that is charmingly sitting on the front edge of the host rock matrix

and even the pieces mined by Collector’s Edge did not produce much Apatite

It’s still a dramatic specimen and very three-dimensional compared to the large majority of Augelites from Machacamarca

To find a piece with such great aesthetics is rare these days

Not since the days of World War II has there been such a remarkable find of this material

This is one of the very few specimens of Franckeite that I have seen from the famous Siglo XX mine

and was mined in the early 1980’s
