"Stripped"1994 Steel, soapstone, wood This sculpture is kind of a self portraitin that angst ridden 22 year old sort of way. The entire piece evolved from the forehead nose plate, which was a simplistic way to represent a whole face by only showing part of it. Note how the seams of the non existant skull plates are represented by steel wire. The jaw of the piece is supported by the tongue, which is welded to the rod that supports the brain.

The result is what looks like a simple

The style of the optional popcorn chain echoes the look of traditional Hawaiian olonā fiber cordage

I used the silver strips to create a backless bezel around the stone discs

and is circled with stylized representations of the Chinese character 壽 (shòu)

Invisible settings are the crème de la crème of pavé settings in that no metal shows between stones
